What are the possible current and future dynamics of agroforestry landscape in the Western Ghats? A case study: Kottoli, a village in Karnataka
Julie ALET, Master student from AgroParisTech, France
This is the presentation of my work experience, one week before I leave for fieldwork, for a two month period. For the past 50 years and more, the Coorg region has been facing massive expansion of coffee plantations, affecting its mountainous landscape. This causes not only deforestation and loss of biodiversity, but also decrease in paddy field surfaces, hence bringing up food sustainability issues. From former cadastral map, former and current images of the Kottoli village, and information gathered from interviews, I will try to understand the landscape dynamics which created the landscape of today, and hopefully do landscape predictions for the next coming years. During the presentation, I will, among others, present the software that I will be using to model the landscape.
