The first translation of the Qurʾān into a European language dates back to the 8th/9th century A. D. and is preserved as fragments within a single manuscript (Vat. gr. 681), which was circulated throughout the Byzantine Empire during the 9th century. It seems at first to be an exact translation of the holy book of Islam. However, on closer inspection and comparison with the Arabic text of the Qurʾān, the translation reveals some subtle textual differences of theological significance. These can be interpreted as a result of a Christian hermeneutical reading of the Qurʾān.
The lecture aims to give an overview of the development and influence of this important document of early Islam and to discuss the transformation that the Qurʾānic text underwent in this translation.

ظهرت أول ترجمة للقرآن في إحدى اللغات الأوروبية إبّانَ القرن ٨ أو ٩ الميلادي، ويُحفظ عدد من أجزائها في مخطوطة واحدة في مكتبة الڤاتيكان . وشاعت هذه الترجمة في الإمبراطورية البيزنطية خلال القرن ٩؛ ويبدو للوهلة الأولى أن نقل المعاني القرآنية كان معقولاً، في حين أن التحليل المتأني والمقارنة مع النص العربي الأصلي يكشفان اختلافات نصية دقيقة مردّها لاهوتي ويمكن أن تكون تأويلاً مسيحياً لنصّ القرآن.
تهدف المداخلة إلى عرض هذه الوثيقة المهمة لصورة الإسلام الخارجية في القرون الأولى بعد إنتشار الإسلام، وإلى مناقشة التحولات التي طرأت على النص القرآني في هذه الترجمة
