Abstract
As past vegetational history is mostly inferred through plant proxies, it is essential to have a good understanding of them. Pollen, one of the most reliable among these proxies, is preserved under ideal conditions in sedimentary records. In order to understand the pollen spectrum of these records, a good understanding of the complexities of pollen morphology is required.
The parameters used in pollen morphological studies, namely, size, ornamentation and apertural nature will be discussed in the talk. An outline of the relevance of such studies in ecology will also be presented.
