How a landscape is functioning: illustration of the scientific method
Landscape is an ecological object that we do not understand well. It would however be useful to understand how it functions in order to better manage it or better understand the other ecological processes that it carries. After having presented the general context, that is, the questions and scientific hypotheses related to this complex object, I will show how landscape modelling contributes in better understanding it. Through certain choices, we will see an illustration of landscape modeling applied to one or several sites, followed by a spatial analysis to determine some of its properties. I will finish with a discussion showing the advantages and limits of these approaches, then the perspectives in this discipline. At the end, we will have a open discussion on the scientific method that guides us in these kinds of scientific studies.
