Analysis of low cost reforestation techniques in dry deciduous forest in South India: A Case study of Lokkere Reserve Forest, Karnataka
Reforestation is a controversial concept which is being applied and interpreted in different ways by different practitioners (non-governmental organizations and governmental organizations). The decisions about reforestation methods have often been based on anecdotal evidence, because published research that experimentally compares a combination of methods is lacking. Practical experience is valuable, but because seeded species, equipment, and specifications for seeding vary among projects, comparisons are sometimes impossible. Practitioners have asked researchers to examine such problems experimentally and to provide not only important site-specific recommendations but also potentially useful generalizations (Clewell & Rieger 1997).The current project collaboration between Junglescapes Charitable Trust NGO, Karnataka and the French Institute of Pondicherry, Pondicherry is a result of this need.
During my talk I will introduce you to my trainee project that aimed at comparing the seedball and sapling method of reforestation. I will also highlight the requirement for estimation of potential reforestation areas near the study area. Throughout the talk I hope to emphasize on the approach to the research question.
