On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP) the Ambassador of France, H.E. Mr François RICHIER cordially invites you to a seminar at India Habitat Centre, Jacaranda Hall

Chief Guest: Dr Harsh VARDHAN Hon’ble Union Minister for Sciences and Technology, and Earth Sciences (TBC)

The French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP), the largest of the research institutes dependent on the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. A one-day conference is organized in Delhi, starting a series of celebrations, which will gather some eminent experts engaging in discussions highlighting the researches of the IFP in the fields of Indology, Ecology and Social Sciences. This anniversary will bear witness to 60 years of high level scientific cooperation between France and India.

Presentation of the Department of Indology, with a final point on the archaeological photographs collection to open the transition to the current studio photo project, by Prof. Y. Subbarayalu

Presentation of Social Sciences by themes
- “the studies conducted on rural Tamil Nadu as the origin and backbone of social sciences, with focus on the photo studio project and collection” by Mr. Ramesh Kumar
- “social sciences at large, with a focus on the recent development of urban studies (CSH-IFP collaboration), and a concluding point on water studies as an initiative to strengthen interdisciplinarity and collaboration across disciplines and departments” by Dr.Aurélie Varrel

14:30–16:00 Panel 2: Monitoring biodiversity & forests to better understand and tackle climate change

Presentation of the Department of Ecology “Characterization of forest ecosystems, species distribution patterns and socio-economics situations of forest dwelling communities to assess the impact of disturbance and climate change on biodiversity as well as to draw conservation plans” by Dr. B.R. Ramesh

Presentation of Palynology “The pollen reference collection at the IFP and its applications in reconstructing Past Vegetation and Climate histories to validate Climate Models and inform Forest Conservation and Ecorestoration measures” by Dr.Anupama Krishnamurthy

Presentation of Laboratory of Applied Informatics and Geomatics (LIAG) (with a focus on the development of new approaches to monitor forest carbon in the tropics) by Dr. Pierre Grard
