The tenure of IFRA-Nigeria director Dr. Gérard Chouin came to an end in December 2013 and a new director has been appointed. From January 2014, Dr. Chouin is Assistant Professor of African History at the College of William and Mary, Virginia, USA.

Much has been achieved over the past three years: IFRA has launched and been involved in various research projects with Nigerian, West African, and other international partners; and a number of quality works have been published in IFRA’s book collections.

Some notable projects include the following: History of Medical Research in Nigeria with the LSHTM and the British Academy; PERILA (Assessment of Risks in the Niger Republic and on the Niger–Nigeria border) with the Niger research center LASDEL and the French centre CSFRS;Habitele, Wearable Digital Identities, with Sciences-Po Paris; XenAfPol, The Politics of Xenophobic Exclusion in Africa, with multiple partners (France, South Africa, UK); and Nigeria Watch, a database on violence in Nigeria, with the UK Department for International Development.

The book collections of IFRA-Nigeria have been entirely digitized and are accessible on openedition.org; and a promising collection, West African Politics and Society, was launched with the African Studies Center of Leiden.

Furthermore, the partnerships with the University of Ibadan, the Institute of African Studies, and several other Nigerian universities and research centers have been substantially strengthened; and IFRA-Nigeria now benefits from a solid network of brilliant fellows in Nigeria and elsewhere.

IFRA-Nigeria now welcomes the incoming director, Dr. Xavier Moyet, who obtained a PhD from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and was until recently a research fellow at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM).
